My wife, Diane, and I were enjoying one last day in Orlando yesterday – after the end of the PGA Equipment Show.  So I was not able to watch Scott Stallings win his 3rd PGA Tour event.  Today I watched the replay, and he played great golf down the stretch to win.  Two big par putts on #15 and #17, and a clutch birdie on a tough finishing par 5 to seal the win.  Scott plays at my home course, the Oak Ridge Country Club – and all of the members get excited when he has a chance to win a Tour event.

Scott hit 4 of 14 fairways on Sunday, but still shot a 4 under par 68 to win the event.  With my club fitting and short game improvement hat on, I looked with interest at a post of the specs of the clubs that he played at Torrey Pines this weekend.  Here is a link to his club specs:

Two things struck me when I looked at his present club setup:

  1. His putter has a bit of a different type of aim line setup.  One dot on the top, 2 lines on the bottom.  I do not often see this setup – but I am guessing Scott did some testing to find that this was an aiming setup that would work for HIM.  And when I watched him putt in the tournament, he spent a LOT of time setting up to aim his putter correctly.  â€‹
  2. His wedge setup also is a bit interesting.  He played a 50 degree wedge bent to 52 degrees, a 54 degree wedge bent to 56 degrees, and a 58 degree wedge bent to 60 degrees.  For each wedge, bending for more loft will also result in additional wedge bounce.  His 54 bent to 56 degrees had (looking closely at the picture of this wedge) an initial bounce of 14 degrees and so a final bounce of 16 degrees.  More bounce can be good – it certainly was for Scott this weekend.

Congratulations Scott on Tour Win #3 – looking forward to getting to see you play at the Masters again!
