2012 Golf Game and Clubfitting Resolutions – do a little, gain A Lot!

9:42 pm, Mon, 26 December 11

If you are looking to make New Years Resolutions related to your golf game in 2012, here are a few suggestions you might want to consider….

1.  Perhaps the best start you can make is to First think about the One Thing that you did better in your golf game in 2011 compared to 2012, and decide to keep doing that.  Keeping up your confidence level about what you are doing well can help you to lock that in to be a habit, if it is not already one.  For me that one thing is that I have absolutely no fear any more of sand shots.  I learned proper sand technique when I went to the U.S. Golf Teaching Federation school this past summer, and can count on one had the shots I have missed in the sand since then.

2.  Second, you might want to consider "thinking small" about something to work on in your game for 2012.  What is the one thing that causes you to shoot scores higher than you wish you would?  What can you do to reduce your misses with that club or that shot?  For me, my major misses are with the driver – most often when I shoot a high score on a hole it was the result of a poor drive.  And also more consistent short pitches and chips.  I believe I recently made some steps to improve my driving, I put a new shaft in my driver – Claymore 60 gram F3 flex – and had much more consistent results with it during my last round.

3.  Finally – be consistent about doing something to improve in the areas you want to change – and enjoy it when you see better results.

From the standpoint of my clubfitting efforts, there are three key areas where I plan to improve this coming year….

1.  First, since I know have a Flightscope X1 launch monitor as part of my fitting equipment, learn more and more of the capabilities of this and how it can be used to help golfers find the best clubs for their games.

2.  Second, my fittings in 2012 will focus more on helping players to make more consistent contact with less shot dispersion.  As part of that focus, learning how to  more effectively fit players using counterweights in their clubs is an area where I want to improve.

3.  Finally, looking for ways to make my present iron and fairway wood test clubs even better is a priority for me in 2012.

It is great to always feel like you can "start over" at the start of a New Year.  No reason why any of us can not improve our golf games in 2012!

The Fit Is IT!!   Happy New Year!
