Twyla Tharp has written an entertaining book titled "The Creative Habit."  In this book she describes the process that she uses to create the dance dancing productions that have made her famous.

I am listening to an audio version of this book.  In about the middle of it, she talks about "Luck" – but in a different way that I have ever heard anyone talk about it before.  She talks about Luck often being the result of someone else being generous with their skills, talents, and abilities.

I have had a little bit of that "Luck" in the past few days.  For an unknown reason, portions of my web site were not working as they did in the past.  Luckily (!) I knew some folks to go to for help – the technical support folks at iThemes.com, and my good friend Kerry Carron at Ultimate Solutions – both have in the past have helped me fix things that I did not know how to fix.  All is better on my web site now – but I was not likely to get things fixed without their help.

This concept of Luck is something that I think is at the heart of what a custom club fitter does to help golfers play better golf.  The large majority of folks who I see and work with do not usually understand, at the start, the potential for custom fitting to help them improve their golf games.  Many of them also do not understand how their present golf clubs are in fact keeping them from playing the golf they really desire and are capable of playing.

Just a simple example – this weekend I received a set of clubs to regrip for a female golfer.  Though she did not ask me to, I measured the swingweight of the putter.  It was essentially a sledge hammer – a swingweight way larger than G10, the heaviest feeling putter I have ever seen.  Luckily (! again), she also needed it shortened – and in this case shortening it helps make the weight better and get her into a better putting position.

Personally I am lucky that I get to learn – from other members of the Assn. of Golf Clubfitting Professionals (AGCP) – the skills and art of custom club fitting.  And I truly enjoy passing this knowledge on to golfers to help them get as lucky as possible every time they step on the golf course.  If you have not taken the leap into custom club fitting, maybe this is the time – you may get luckier than you think!

The Fit Is IT!!
