Fall Back In Love With Golf!
What a worthy goal for 2014!
About a week ago I was listening to Matt Ginella – commentator on the Golf Channel – talk about a recent lesson that he had with Jim McLean. Matt was amazed at what he learned, and he said that as a result of this lesson he felt like he would Fall Back In Love Again With The Game Of Golf. I got excited when I heard him say that – for him. Because I believe it meant he was not having the fun playing golf that he wanted to – and he felt like now he could get that back.
I have a bit of that "fall in love" feeling about my personal golf game. Recently I started to improve my golf grip, and also to work on some long-term fitness exercises to help me be more flexible – for life then for golf. Instead of the weak slice I had in the past, I now draw most shots, and I also have gained at least 10 yards of distance with almost every club.
Perhaps you are not enjoying your golf game as much as you think you should. If that is the case, and you are tired of it being that way, maybe these three tasks can help you get that loving feeling back:
- Clearly identify what it is about your golf game that would have the biggest impact to improve your score. Driving, putting, wedge play – whatever it is.
- Then – and this is an important step – envision what it would be like it you improved that area of your game. How would you feel, what would your game be like? This is important, because we all need motivations to help us change.
- Finally – get some help to achieve the improvement that will bring back the love! It could be swing lessons, custom fit clubs, putting and short game improvement, improved fitness – but whatever it is, take the leap and make changes that will help you be happier on the golf course.
Personally, I am getting closer to realizing a dream – starting a Podcast on Golf Game Improvement. It will have a focus on club fitting and short game improvement – areas I know the most about. But it will also include – through interviews with experts – information on other golf improvement areas that I hope you will enjoy and get value from. I already have a few interviews in mind – and welcome suggestions from all of you on people you would like to hear from.
