Custom Putter Fitting – the Edel Putter Fitting System!
Sometimes things come together when you least expect it!
A few weeks ago I was playing golf with some of my normal golfing buddies, and it struck me how difficult it sometimes is to aim your putter at the hole. At the same time, I had been corresponding with Glen Combs, the "Putting Doctor," about some of his thoughts on the importance of putting. And at the PGA Show, I had the opportunity to see how the folks at Edel Golf (http://www.edelgolf.com) use their putter fitting system to fit custom putters.
In October, through a reference from one of my clubfitting friends, we were asked to become an Edel Putter Fitting Center. At that time (sometimes it takes time to realize a good thing!) I guess I was not ready for this. But after the realization that many MANY players put a lot of emphasis on things like driver fitting but NOT ENOUGH on playing with a putter that really fits them, I contacted Bobby Dean at Edel Golf and said I hoped they would still consider making Game Improvement Golf one of their fitting centers. Luckily for us, he said yes!
The Edel Putter Fitting System is, without a doubt, the most comprehensive system available for fitting putters for golfers. The focus in their fitting approach is largely based on the fact that – surprisingly – the type of putter you play – head type, hosel type, even the lines in the putter! – can affect how you aim your putter. So their system works to help you find a putter that you can aim well, and then has sufficient variablity to allow a player to be fit to something like more than 200 million combinations of length, lie angle, club weight, counterweight, shaft flex, etc.
Why T Minus 8 Days? – well on March 5 and 6, Bobby Dean from Edel Golf will be coming to train me on using the Edel System. The Edel Fitting Cart is – at this moment – working its way through Fed Express to me. Bobby will train me how how to use their system to fit putters, and then on Tuesday March 6 we will do putter fittings with at least 6 golfers to show how effective this system is and to get me comfortable in using the fitting system.
I am excited FOR GOLFERS in East Tennessee that this system will be available to help them find putters that truly fit them and that will help them to putt to the best of their abilities.
