Edel Golf Day Two – Great Putter Fittings

8:39 pm, Wed, 7 March 12

Bobby Dean from Edel Golf spent a second day – on March 6 – at Game Improvement Golf – training me on using the Edel Putter Fitting System.

We did 4 putter fittings on March 6, and in each case the results I think surprised the folks who were fit.  For each we followed pretty much this approach….

1.  Let the player set up with his putter and see how he aimed it.  In one case aim pretty good, in the others off by about 5 inches to as much as 15 inches for a 6 foot putt length.

2.  Then we worked to find a putter configuration that the player could aim well.  We made variations in all of the typical parts of the putter – lie, length, loft, head type, hosel offset type, aim lines on the putter.  It is amazing that we found for most players that different aim lines lead them to aim their putter differently, and in some cases to create a different putter loft.

3.  After finding a putter configuration that the player could aim well, we had each player hit putts a specific length, putting to a string.  We worked then to find putter weight, counter weight, Opti Vibe weight (weight that would go down the shaft), and weight location that would help each player make a smooth stroke.  Small changes sometimes had big effects.  For each fitting, the player was in the end convinced that they had a putter that felt very good to them, and they could easily control speed of the putts they were hitting.

At the end of each fitting, each player knew the exact specs of the putter that was fit for them.  I have included a video testimonial (YouTube) from one of the folks who was fit (thanks Harvey!):

So now Game Improvement Golf is a certified Edel Putter Fitting Center.  The really GREAT part of this happening is that we now have the ability to create true custom fit putters for players – putters they can aim well, can stoke well – all in all can help them to putt as good as they can!

The Fit Is IT!!
