Carey Mumford – A “Quiet” Giant In Golf’s Mental Game
Carey Mumford – and Clear Key Golf – were dedicated to helping golfers improve their mental games.
This Monday evening, I received a note that someone had stopped subscribing to my weekly blog post. I found out that Carey Mumford, a world expert in helping golfer's improve their mental game approach, passed away on October 18.
About 10 years ago, I was lucky enough to learn about Carey and his Clear Key Golf web site – Clear Key Golf. On his site, he has a Golfing Style Profile that you could complete, and also a number of eBooks that were available for download. The concept of using what he called a "Clear Key" – a phrase that a golfer can think of internally before hitting a golf shot – made sense to me. I adopted this approach, and some of my best rounds of golf have been played when I was totally dedicated to using my Clear Key during my round.
When I say that Carey was "Quiet," I am not being totally truthful. He was quiet in that he did not make a big deal about his knowledge – he did not seem to promote what he knew and did loudly. But he was NOT Quiet when he wrote – if you go to his web site you will see many articles related to his views the the Truth about the Mental Game.
Here are two links to articles I recently read of his again, related to helping golfers recover from the Putting Yips:
"Yips In Golf – Going Beyond Conventional Wisdom"
I was fortunate a few years ago to get to have lunch with Carey – he lived in Crossville, TN about an hour from where I live. I am glad I had that opportunity to meet him personally.
If you want to learn more about the mental game, and golf improvement training, you will do well to digest the readings on the Clear Key Golf web site. There are many gems there for you to discover.
Thanks Carey!!
