Dear Mr. Golfer – Any More Questions?

Last week my good friend and Golf Digest Top 100 Club Fitter – Dan Wilt from Link to the Links – invited me to do some putter fittings at his club, the Graymere Country Club in Columbia, Tennessee.  We were able to complete seven successful Edel putter fittings – but the results from one of them had a truly lasting impression on me and how need to do fittings in the future.

One of the golfers was a player who had a great deal of experience and knowledge.  We went through the putter fitting, he asked a lot of questions about the process and expected results, and we found an Edel putter setup that we both agreed should work well for him.

However, that night I got a call from him…………………would I mind if we tested just one more thing?  He liked the thought of having 3 aim lines on the putter, and wanted to see if that was a configuration that he could aim well.  I said no problem, we tested this setup and it worked, and was he pleased with the results.

Now, I have no doubt that the original line configuration that we found for him would work too.  BUT by going that extra mile, and listening to him when he had some doubts and doing additional testing, he now will have a putter that HE totally buys in to – a huge boost in confidence for him.

Yes, I pride myself in having a high level of knowledge in putter fitting and using the Edel fitting system.  But making the fitting a team effort, asking that last question at the end – "Any More Questions?" – and being sure the golfer truly likes what we have identified for him is I think an important and maybe overlooked element of True Custom Fitting.

Many many golfers know a lot about what they like, what feels good, what can work.  To ignore that feedback, or actually to not Encourage and Promote getting it, is to ignore a way to make the fitting even better.

So – Any More Questions? !!
