Gapping For LOWER SCORES!

Your Golf Club Set Makeup REALLY Matters…

Gapping For LOWER SCORES

My really smart club fitting friend John Schiavone (Rocket Science Golf in New York City) shared a valuable new Golf Digest article.  It’s titled “The Harsh Truth about 5 Irons” – and I believe it is a must read for all of you – HERE IS THE LINK.

A 5-yard distance gap between 5 irons and 7 irons is a little hard to believe – or IS IT?  The more I think about it – for slower swingers – not at all.  Especially when I remember a little rule that Tom Wishon talked about – what he has called the 24 – 38 Iron Rule.  Simply stated – irons that have a loft of 24 degrees or less, or a length of 38 inches or longer, can be difficult many golfers to hit well.

Here are some additional comments related to the Golf Digest article that I think can help you…

My Bag?  Well, I used to be able to hit 6 irons well, but in the past few years the highest iron in my bag has been a 7 iron (31 degree loft).  Then I play a 6 hybrid, 9 wood, and 7 wood – ALL wonderful clubs for me that provide good distance gaps (about 10 yards) and are easy to hit when I create a good swing.

You do not have to let the “Harsh Truth” – as Golf Digest calls it – keep you from playing Great Golf!
