Golf Club Fitting Information – Who Can You Trust?

Recently one of the AGCP members shared a video link from a clubfitter who said a lot of things that, quite frankly, are incorrect.  In thinking about that, it is important to realize that anyone these days can post YouTube videos, anyone these days can say that they have correct information.  How can you as a golfer determine if that is true or not – Who Can You Trust?

I would suggest that one of the most important functions of an organization like the one I participate in – the Assn. of Golf Clubfitting Professionals – is that it has an internal club fitting certification process that folks have to go through.  To get the recent Level 10 certification that I was able to achieve, for example, I had to answer 53 different comprehensive questions related to club fitting.  While this was not a verbal test, it was a test that one would have to take seriously if they wanted to pass it.  

Taking tests like the AGCP Certification test has a valuable function beyond finding out of someone knows what they are talking about in terms of an area like professional clubfitting.  Any time to you to devote days to completing a test, you learn some thing new yourself – or at the least you cement important concepts that you already know pretty well.  

So back to Who Do You Trust? – it helps when the person presenting you information for evaluation can also present you some credentials to show that they know their stuff.  In the world of Club Fitting, the AGCP is one organization that ensures the quality of its membership.  Another important organization like the AGCP is the International Clubmakers Guild (ICG) – while I am not a member of ICG, many of its members are very well qualified club makers and club fitters, and they also have a comprehensive process for its members can take for certification.

You deserve correct club fitting information – golf is hard enough as it is!
