Basics Trump Quick Fixes!

ALWAYS Question “Quick Fixes”

Basics Trump Quick Fixes

A week ago a new book Do Hard Things by Steve Magness was published – it lays out things that individuals and coaches can to do create “real toughness.” (Yep, I’ve read it!).  Steve is doing a lot of Twitter posts to promote the book, and one he posted today is quoted below…

“Don’t get caught up in the final 1% if you haven’t taken care of the easier-to-do and bigger bang for your buck 99%.  Work hard and don’t buy into … quick fixes.”

Recently I saw a putting quick tip that I think fits this really well.  It was posted to help golfers make more shorter putts.  It was to practice by putting your putter right behind the ball and pushing the putter toward the hole, keeping the face square.

It “kind of” sounds like a good thing to do.  But what are you REALLY doing when you do this?  First, since you start at rest you are Accelerating THROUGH The Ball – one of the most destructive putting concepts that many golfers have, and that can create poor distance and speed control.  Second, you are not making a stroke that resembles your actual putting stroke.

I suggest you follow these guidelines related to any potential Quick Tips you might read…

ANY time you readers here want a “second opinion” on a tip you have read – related to club fitting or putting instruction – consider asking me for what I think. And know that if I do not know a good answer, I know lots of smart people who I trust who can help.
