Forgetting Is Natural and Necessary For Change
My family Father’s Day present this year was a fascinating book by Doug Lemov – “The Coaches Guide To Teaching.” One of the most interesting and important chapters in the book is titled The Battle Of Forgetting. Here is a small blog post that Doug wrote on what he calls The Forgetting Curve.
There are some good bullet points in the blog link I provided – but bottom line – We Forget Stuff – It Is Natural And To Be Expected For Learning And Growth.
Of course all of this relates to Golf and Life right? Consider these two small thoughts…
- Forgetting is a natural element in the process of creating solid Habits. Like, for me, the swing thoughts I am working on to be able to hit short pitches well. The Bible for Building Great Habits is still James Clear’s book Atomic Habits.
- Are there principles and specific things you are wanting to use to improve your game and scoring? Like, for example, playing to eliminate scores higher than bogey – or knowing that a 2 putt for any distance outside of 15 feet is an acceptable result? Why not write down a few of these things – your important scoring principles – on a sheet of paper or on a card, and review them before you play? Maybe you will be less likely to forget them the next time you play.
I believe FORGETTING sends a message well worth attending to!!
