Change SOMETHING – Yippee!
I Decided To Change SOMETHING…
And Achieved Some AMAZING Results!
Two “unrelated” but maybe related things happened recently that I will share with you here. Both I think are at least partly the result of my decision to change something related to my body and my golf…
- For about the past two months I have been struggling with significant lower back pain. I have been doing weekly physical therapy for my back, and also some focused RotexMotion exercises that Dr. Joe LaCaze suggested to me. I knew that part of the issue for me is my sleeping posture, and that I needed to find a way to lie in bed that did not stress my back. Well – yesterday I found a way to lie down that seemed to take help – and IMMEDIATELY no more back pain. It was hard to believe – and I have not had pain for the past two days. I believe the change in my back pain resulted from the COMBINATION of all of my recent improvement efforts.
- More than 2 years ago I started having the putting stroke yips. My “cure” had been to putt with a claw grip – but I have never enjoyed that. About a month ago committed to a number of “small” but I think significant changes. At the recent AGCP Roundtable, my friend Keith Chatham suggested I experiment with a large counterweight in my putter shaft located under my right hand – and I installed a 100 gram Opti Vibe weight 3 inches down the shaft. I also: a) changed to a full swing overlap grip for my putting, b) changed my putting stroke movement pattern, where I now control speed more in my torso and arms; c) practiced the stroke changes every day for at least 10 minutes in my basement; and d) during practice on the putting green hit a lot of really long putts using the new stroke, and did a lot of distance control practice. Result – in the last two rounds of golf No Putting Yips!
